Hi PatrickDS,

if you use Guix, you can spin up a Hurd instantly by adding a hurd-vm
service: https://guix.gnu.org/en/blog/2020/childhurds-and-substitutes/

If you do not run Guix, the easiest way to test the Hurd is to use the
qemu-image and check whether it already supports what you need:
https://www.gnu.org/software/hurd/hurd/running/qemu.html#index1h1

There is an iso, but you’ll need to do some more checks whether it
already supports the metal.

Note that for both ways you should absolutely have hardware
virtualization enabled in your bios. It makes the difference between
unbearably slow operation and reasonable performance.

Other ways to run a Hurd-System: https://www.gnu.org/software/hurd/#index4h1

Best wishes,
Arne
