patsubst and parens

Hi,

I have a variable that contains my archive library names as targets; ie 
libMylib.a(myobj.o). I would like to use patsubst to strip of the succeeding 
"(myobj.o)" but, I'm having trouble telling patsubst to include the parens in 
the patterns  exactly so that I end up with libMylib.a ( and I can do a file 
command like rm on it.

How do I do this and am I on the wrong track?
