eval doesn't exactly work correctly in 3.80 either. It takes a lot of work to
find the right combination that doesn't cause make to crash with the virtual
memory exhausted bug when using eval. Of course that bug was fixed 3 years ago
and we *STILL* do not have a release that fixes it.
