problems with UTF-8

[Joan Manuel Ventura]

i was programming on Suse 9.0, with Ncurses and C
Language.

now, i change to Suse 10.0, but im having problems
with the Characters. i read that Suse change to UTF-8
from Suse 9.1.

how can i call an encoding system like LATIN1, or
others that i can use in my program to repair this
problem.
