It's ugly, but it's all I can think of with what we've got now.  I've
seen indexes (ab)used in such ways before.

    That would work but it does indeed complicate things a little bit.

Well, depending on how strongly you feel about all this, I can try to

Indeed, I agree that separate indexes would be beneficial here.
