Actually it is the other way around IIRC.  Europeans call it GMT,
but Americans don't like this "technical" term being colored so
regional ("Greenwich") -- especially when it's not American. :)
That's why they prefer to call it UTC.  It doesn't hurt this
much ...

I would call this breaking CVS.  Don't touch this aspect!  You
might want to wrap some things presenting these data to the
users.  But don't prevent yourself from cooperating with partners
(you might not have yet, but who could be there soon).
