pserver import problems: Operation not supported on transport endpoint

Hi all,

I've been trying to set up a simple pserver based CVS server, and have
run into some hassles.

On the server machine, I have successfully created a CVS repository with
"cvs init". I have configured both /etc/services and /etc/inetd.conf and
have managed to do a "cvs login" successfully based on a user defined in
the $CVSROOT/CVSROOT/passwd file.

I then try to do an import of a directory called "test" under a
repository called "www22r" (which ultimately is being used to do version
control on a machine's config files) like so:

www22r # /opt/CVS/bin/cvs -d :pserver:address@hidden:/opt/CVS/cvsroot import
-m "Testing a directory structure" www22r/test www22r start
cvs [import aborted]: reading .perflbd.socket: Operation not supported
on transport endpoint

Possible problems could be to do with permission problems on the
repository (which is 0777 while testing) or my failure to understand all
the docs I have been reading (also likely), but I have no idea what the
above error message is referring to. It looks like some deep down error
inside CVS that is being reported out of context.

Does anyone know what this error means?

Does anyone have a step by step HOWTO describing how to get a
pserver-based CVS server up and running in a simple configuration that

address@hidden "There's a moon
                                        over Bourbon Street
