permission denied

I have a working CVS repository. No errors in a long time.

All of sudden, I'm getting these error messages:
cvs [server aborted]: can't chdir(/root): Permission denied

when trying to commit.

CVS actually commits it, but I still get the error message.
I haven't found any convincing

I run cvs as a pserver under linux redhat 6.1
my inetd.conf says
cvspserver stream  tcp  nowait  root  /usr/bin/cvs
cvs --allow-root=/my/cvs1 --allow-root=/my/cvs2 pserver
