No, but it can track binaries, so that means it'll version just about
everything.  The problem is that if the files are large and set to binary
& copy modes, the repository archive files can get huge since CVS will no
longer only store diffs between revisions.

If the data files you are referring to are text this may not be an issue.

might help too.  There're usually a few compare & contrast documents for the
various revision control systems lying around.
