This may not be the case for the document processor program you're
using, but many word processors allow saving in .RTF format, which is
a text file. People using such a word processor (MS Word is an
example) could just save all their documents in that format, which
should greatly reduce the size of diffs between revisions.

I know how to make Word show me a diff of two files from the menu, but
don't know how to do it from a DOS commandline, and I've been *dying*
to find out (I could then setup tkCVS to use it); I even searched the
MSDN documentation and didn't find anything. Do you (or anybody else
on the list) know how to do this?

Note that subversion (http://subversion.tigris.org) *will* have
support for diff "plugins", I believe both for viewing and for storing
(not sure about the 2nd).
