I don't understand the problem.  Each project has a CVSROOT string that is a
pain to type, but usually you need to type it precisely twice.  After that,
the information is in the CVS/Root file for the project, and the password
is in ~/.cvspass.

For example, I've got a local checkout of CVS here somewhere.  If I have
that as a working directory, CVS will assume I mean to use the cvshome
repository, and everything works just fine.
