Thanks Larry. Am I correct in thinking that everything would be ready to go if I just took a tarball from the NT repository and un-tarred it onto the Unix box?

Almost. You need to copy all the RCS files in binary mode (no line
ending conversion), but the administrative files (config, loginfo, etc.)
need to be copied in text mode. If you do that, you don't even need to
initialize the repository.
