The two obvious contenders (or maybe starting points) are  Jim Blandy's
"Introduction to CVS" at http://cvshome.org/docs/blandy.html and Karl Fogel's
"Open Source Development with CVS" at http://cvsbook.red-bean.com . If beginners
find these useful, maybe other beginners should be directed there before  the
reference manual. If they are not serving beginners, then let's hear what's 
wrong
- I'm looking to write CVS docs.
