Your configuration looks correct to me.

i.e adding you user name to the comma separated list of user names in the
/etc/group file should be enough to add you to the cvsadmin group. This
change only takes effect when logging in. 

To see which groups you are actually a member of use the 'id' command. You
should get a list of your uid, gid(s) and their names.

If you don't see cvsadmin then you aren't a member of the cvsadmin group.
