cvs log -r

I have a couple of questions about cvs log -r behavior,  what I want is the 
differences between tags.

When I use cvs log -rV2_1_1bld073009:V2_1_1bld081509, I get the whole
cvs log info on HEAD, how can I get it to do this:

cvs log -r:V2_1_1bld073009:V2_1_1bld081509 -  greater than the first tag and 
less than the second.  Doing it by date comes close but if there are changes 
to HEAD that aren't tagged yet I get those also.
