passwd and users under versioncontroll ?

Hi,
is it possible to get the self defined files under version controll ?
I think the problem is to register the files to rebuild administrative file
after changing like it will be done with standard admin-files. 
Normally the server will rebuild themselve from version controlled file (,v 
files). But how to do this for this files ?
