I think that an executable without the corresponding source is useless
(OK, it runs, but it cannot be reproduced).  What I use the executables
for is to guarantee that the build process went well, i.e. the SCM group
built the same thing as the engineering group.  Once you have that, you
should just save checksums and size for the executables in the release
docs to allow you to check out older versions and rebuild them.
