Broken Pipe Error on CVS Commit

Has anyone seen this error?  I received it while
performing a commit.  Our repository is on a Solaris
UNIX server and we are using Windows NT clients.

[cvs] cvs [commit aborted]: error writing to server:
Broken pipe

The error seems to be more prone to happen when
committing large files or a large number of changes. 
Also, even though the commit fails, it will sometimes
work if we try to attempt the commit again.
