checking out files

 Hi,

I would like to know how you can check out one files
with different extension format like xyz.xls, 
xyz.txt, xyz.ps, xyz.dbf. I tried doing xyz.* to check
out all files of xyz but that did not work. So, can
someone please help. Thank you in advance.
