failed to create empty document

Hi all,
I have been using wincvs for quite some time.  But from last few days,
whenever I launch cvs client (version 1.2) I see the error message box
"Failed to Create Empty Document" with the splash screen.  The message box
appears only for a split second.  Then the scv application starts, and once
I click on any menu options, the application stops responding.  I have to
kill it with ctrl+alt+del.
I am really puzzled because this started happening all of a sudden.
Can anyone tell what could be the reason?
