No it isn't. It is merely not as nice as it is for text files. That is
not an argument for not using it unless there is something better or
something better can be produced for less effort than the gain.
My oven doesn't do as good a job on pizzas as on roasts. It doesn't do
as good a job as a professonal wood burning pizza oven. However it
does as good a job as any technology which would fit in my kitchen and
budget, and that is the only meaningful comparison.

You proposed an alterntive which performs worse (doesn't keep versions
in sync with the CVS controled files) and is extra work to
administer. That is not a good seller.
