Concern over longevity of a CVS repository

Hello-

Does anyone have sage advice about steps to take to ensure that a CVS 
repository lives on for a long time?  i.e.  I know there are certain files 
that keep growing, etc.

Does anyone have a list of items that would be nice to do periodically, say 
crop certain files, etc.
