Problem with Watch

Hi folks.  We are using cvs 1.11.2.

We have noticed that cvs watch does not seem to work.

We try removing a watch from files that are being watched:
cvs watch remove -a commit

and we get the following error:
cvs [server aborted]: unknown command: watch_remove

And the client just sits there ... we have to CTRL-C out o fthe operation (thi is on UNIX).

Same happening if we try to do an add:
cvs watch add -a commit
cvs [server aborted]: unknown command: watch_add

Any ideas as to what could be wrong?
