That it works in one case and not in the other could conceivably
be a difference between client/server and local operation --
those have been seen before.

More likely, though, it has to do with the different versions
you're using -- especially 1.11, which is pretty old; lots of
bugs have been fixed since then, and this might be one of them.

Best would probably be to upgrade both client and server to
1.11.2, or to what's in CVS if you're feeling brave, and see if
that solves it.  Failing that, could you clarify which CVS
version(s) were used for which tests?  For the remote test,
*both* the client and the server versions are needed.
