You could always join...  If it's the main CVS project on, I believe anyone's allowed to join with read-only
access.  Approval is only required because the software they're
using to host the site won't let them turn off that feature.  In
other words, if you're asking for read-only access, approval is
required, but isn't too hard to get.

At least, that's how it was when I joined a year or two ago; is
it still the case?
