There is DCVS, a project based on cvsup that goes a few steps beyond;
it uses a modified cvs client and server to manage local lines of
development. It ensures that when you create a branch, it uses a branch
number from a range assigned to your server, so that the deltas on your
branch can be synced to another node without conflicts.
The cvs command is replaced by dcvs, CVS/ directories by DCVS/
CVS* environment variables by DCVS* and so on.
