I've got some really big RCS files in my repository (hundreds of megs), which are slowing things down to a crawl. I'd like to take the history for these files offline and archive it somewhere, while preserving the current version number in the repository. Is there a good way to do this?

The closest I've come so far is to remove the overgrown file from the repository, and then re-add the latest version. This resets the version number to 1.1.1.1 though, which messes up developers' workspaces.

Ideas (or scripts) are much appreciated.

Cheers,
