Currently, you have to do a checkout/update and then a regular tag.
I started to update the commands that treat revision and date as
mutually exclusive, but I stopped because the current method of
specifying both -r and -D doesn't work for diff and we really want it to
work the same way for all commands. Exactly how to do it is an open
issue.
