thanks to both for the reply.

Of course, having successfully got the list of files to delete from the
command line client, I realised I can't delete them using tortoise unless
they exist in my workspace anyway :-))

I must admit I find the namespace client very easy to use, but it never
really occured to me before that this is a fundamental problem with a
namespace client - if the file isn't in the workspace, you can't do anything
with it.
