Sometimes "not supported" really means exactly that.

You can force delete the branch tag *BUT DON'T DO THAT*.

If you do, any revisions on the branch still persist, but only accessible by 
revision numbers - and there is no way to refer to the branch as a whole 
across all files - the remaining numbers may be unique to every file. 
Effectively what you end up with is lots and lots of unnamed branches - a 
seperate one for every branch for every file that was touched in that 
branch.
