Define "slow". How big is the project you're working on, and how long is it
taking?

Well, as a long shot - could it be a virus scanner? When I'm doing
large-scale operations I have to temporarily suspend my on-access virus scan
(it's configured to scan *ALL* files, and IT have not figured out how to get
it to ignore specific extensions).
