Concurrent Versions System (CVS) 1.11.5 (client/server)

How can we upgrade to newer version?

Easy. Go here

ftp://ftp.gnu.org/non-gnu/cvs/

Click down to the the type you want (binary or source, stable or feature) and download the version you want. Since you're using 1.11.5 you should probably go with 1.11.21.

How painfull is it to upgrade?

Downloading binaries is nearly painless, but it may not be availble for your machine. Downloading sources is slightly more difficult, but I wouldn't call it painful. Download it, untar it, read the installation instructions, build it, (run tests if you really want to,) install it.
