how to determine the difference between two CVS branches?

Hi;

How do you determine the difference between two CVS branches?

I see two ways:

1> do a cvs export of each branch to tarballs, expand both tarballs then
do a Linux/Unix recursive diff...

2> checkout each branch to two distinct sandboxes, then use Linux/Unix
diff recursively...

Is there a better way?  Does an external CVS branch compare tool exist?
