CVS checkout problems

I am having roblems with checking out in CVS. I have successufully
added a file and folder to cvs and updated the repository.
But when I checkout a file, i get the error msg
cvs server: cannot find module `filename' - ignored
cvs [checkout aborted]: cannot expand modules
