If you are using CVS_RSH=ssh with your :ext: method (this seems likely,
although other clients do exist), then you may wish to look at using
ssh-agent to manage the credentials for you.

Use your favorite search enginge with the terms cvs ext ssh-agent
and you should find one or more examples of how to do things.

Correct, .cvspass is only read with the :pserver: method.
