Running CVS under UNIX as a stand-alone server?

Hello.

I apparently have too many repositories listed in the inetd.conf line for CVS to run properly.  I am hoping that running CVS as a stand-alone server (ie not under inetd) will help resolve this issue.  I have read that this is possible under UNIX , specifically under AIX, but cannot find *how* to set it up.

Could you folks please tell me, or point me to a document, which shows how to run CVS under UNIX outside of inetd and xinetd?

One other bit of information - this setup will use local ids for authentication, and local groups for access control - we are not using the CVS ids provided by pserver.

many thanks,
Andrew Killam
