Very strange.

Well, the log message in the /tmp/cvs<random> file
really should be left around afterwards if the cvs
command believed it exited with an error. If it
just aborted or you clobbered it with a ^C, then I
suppose all bets are off.

I have not actually observed your problem before.
If you are able to reproduce it, it is something
we should try to fix.
