-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-----

Hello!
GnuPG version 1.0.3 has been released and is available at the
mirrors (see below) right now. If you can't get it from a mirror,
use the primary location:
ftp://ftp.guug.de/pub/gcrypt/gnupg/gnupg-1.0.3.tar.gz (1650k)
ftp://ftp.guug.de/pub/gcrypt/gnupg/gnupg-1.0.3.tar.gz.sig
A diff against 1.0.2 is also available:
ftp://ftp.guug.de/pub/gcrypt/gnupg/gnupg-1.0.2-1.0.3.diff.gz (315k)
A MS-Windows version has also been released; actually the source is
the same and you find instructions on how to build it in the file
doc/README.W32 - you need some additional tools to do so, therefore
we have released a binary version:
ftp://ftp.gnupg.de/pub/gcrypt/binary/gnupg-w32-1.0.2.zip (583k)
ftp://ftp.gnupg.de/pub/gcrypt/binary/gnupg-w32-1.0.2.zip.sig
MD5 checksums of the above files are:
ef42c679df7a555e23ebe3c8d14a9124 gnupg-1.0.3.tar.gz
148f0d814abf11a53ce122b371080d87 gnupg-1.0.2-1.0.3.diff.gz
87607bd46fefa5cfbbf6a3fdcf656d25 gnupg-w32-1.0.3.zip
So what's new in this version:
* Fixed problems with piping to/from other MS-Windows software
* Expiration time of the primary key can be changed again.
* Revoked user IDs are now marked in the output of --list-key
* New options --show-session-key and --override-session-key
to help the British folks to somewhat minimize the danger
of this Orwellian RIP bill.
* New options --merge-only and --try-all-secrets.
* New configuration option --with-egd-socket.
* The --trusted-key option is back after it left us with 0.9.5
* RSA is supported. Key generation does not yet work but will come
soon.
* CAST5 and SHA-1 are now the default algorithms to protect the key
and for symmetric-only encryption. This should solve a couple
of compatibility problems because the old algorithms are optional
according to RFC2440
* Twofish and MDC enhanced encryption is now used. PGP 7 supports
this. Older versions of GnuPG don't support it, so they should be
upgraded to at least 1.0.2
Some bugs are also fixed.
However, after releasing we have figured out that there are some
configuration problems on HP/UX, AIX and probably on other OSes too. A
patch will be announced on the GnuPG announce list ASAP. If you are not
subscribed to this list, you may want to check http://lists.gnupg.org in a
few days. Using "./configure --disable-dynload" should work around the
problem. GNU/Linux and Solaris should just work fine.
Debian and RPM packages will be available really soon.
Have fun,
Werner

Issue #20 of Georg's Brave GNU World,
the monthly GNU forum has been released.
-- Georg Greve
Hi !
Issue #20 of the column is now online and it can - as usual - be found
on the GNU Webpage and its mirrors. Otherwise just follow the links at
the end of this posting.
Georg's Brave GNU World is a monthly column which is being released
simultaneously in five languages (English, German, French, Japanese
and Spanish) on the web and printed in the German "Linux-Magazin" as
well as the "Linux Magazine France." This makes it the monthly column
with the widest distribution worldwide as far as I know.
If you would like to receive mail about new issues directly, you can
subscribe to the "Brave GNU World" announcement mailinglist. Just
send mail to <address@hidden> with "subscribe" in
the *body*. The mailinglist is only for announcements that are related
to the "Brave GNU World" and is of very low volume (between 1 and 2
mails a month).
The 20th issue covers the following topics:
* Sylpheed (a pretty nice mailreader)
* Xzgv (a very lightweight and fast image viewer)
* Solfege (music education with Free Software)
* Ggradebook (keeping track of school-grades)
* Common C++ (expanding the libstd++ framework)
* GNU marst (translating Algol to C)
* Gengetopt (commandline parsing made easy)
* OpenTheory (developing documents in the GNU way)
This column intends to provide a forum for all GNU maintainers,
friends and associates and I am always open to suggestions. So if
you
* have questions about the GNU Project that might be of general
interest
* have a GNU Project and would like to improve its profile
* would like to start a GNU Project you are looking for people to
start it with
* think something doesn't get the publicity it deserves
* would like to see something made public
send mail to:
"Brave GNU World <address@hidden>"
This column is for everyone with an interest in Free Software,
so don´t hesitate to contact me if your project is under the
GPL/LGPL and you´d like to see it introduced here.
