The European Commission has published a proposal to legalize software
patents and treat all "computer implementable" ideas as patentable.
This proposal was written for the European Commission by a patent
expert from the Business Software Alliance. It ignores the opinions
of 100,000 signatories of the Eurolinux Petition for a Software Patent
Free Europe, the interests of most European software companies, and the
evidence of economic studies that software patents are harmful.
Please read the detailed analysis at
http://swpat.ffii.org/vreji/papri/eubsa-swpat0202/
and help the FFII and the EuroLinux Alliance mobilize to turn this
defeat into a victory.
