grep-mode not defined

On the latest CVS (updated 9:30 this morning) the grep function
doesn't appear to work. Whenever I try M-x grep emacs respondes with

execute-extended-command: Symbol's value as variable is void: grep-mode

I've tried this on the cvs code from today with no init file just to
be sure it wasn't something of mine.

I'm not really sure how grep-mode could have been lost like this.
Does anyone know what this means? Thanks.

John
