I don't think rmail can do either of these things, but then this is a
newsgroup for Gnus and, oddly enough, I use Gnus and not rmail. The
same may even be true of most people here.

rmail is a standard emacs mode, so you can ask in an emacs newsgroup.

Or perhaps use biff, xbiff, rcvtty, or something else that will do
what you want outside emacs altogether.
