Since individual.net became unavailable to those of us without an Euro
account, I gave up on most newsgroups and started reading mailing lists
on related topics. I also switched to nnimap as my mail reading method.
Thus I ended up with nnimap as gnus-select-method, and
nntp+news.gmane.org as my only secondary select method.
I started reading a single list through gmane:
gmane.science.mathematics.fom. This group is the first in my group
buffer; after that, it's the nnimap groups and drafts.
The trouble is that accessing the gmane group in any way (either Alt-g
with the cursor on it, or opening it with Enter or a mouse click)
sometimes (not always) hangs Emacs, with the cursor changed to an
hourglass. C-g gets me out of that "mode" but after that the group
never seems to work again unless I kill it ad yank it back.
I subscribed to the same group in Mozilla News and there are no problems
at all.
The fact that this happens with Gmane is sadly ironic, but
of course I can't say it wouldn't happen with a different server and
otherwise the same arrangement, because I don't have a reliable
"mainstream" news account.

Optimist: We're only two weeks behind schedule.
Pessimist: The schedule is a whole two weeks ahead of us.
