Please type in

  C-x C-s

In the message buffer you will see then:

  Wrote /Users/maierh/News/drafts/drafts/1 [2 times]

After the next 'g' in the group buffer you should see there a draft
group:

  ...
  4: nnml:mail.sent 
  1: nndraft:drafts 
  ...
