   I think there are a few scenarios where this is desirable. For
   example a (university) network with lots of workstations. We should
   allow students to use audio hardware on the workstations they are
   sitting, but making it possible to do it via ssh would be quite
   stupid and lead to problems...

I don't see how that would lead to any other kind of problem.  I can
figure out far more interesting stuff todo then login a dozen boxes,
and crank up Hendrix on them and bloew the speakers.
