Perhaps once libtool actually accomplishes its objective of being able
to support the *portable* creation of shared libraries on as many
platforms as possible, then it can think about supporting
platform-specific refinements.  Until then, libtool should focus on
operating reliably and correctly.

I am sure you will agree that the gcc developers put first priority on
being able to compile a C module to object code on the target
platform.
