I am working on this at the moment: it relates to ltmain.sh being
generated in the build tree, and all of the autotools expecting to find
it in the src tree.

Bugger. I really thought I had fixed that when I overhauled the
testsuite :-( I haven't seen the bogus failures on my mac since then...
can you send me a verbose trace if you catch it again please?
