Hi Bob,

The new libtool may be more wonderful than pre-sliced bread (toasts and
butters, in addition to slicing), but it seems that CVS libtool's
cross-platform portability is currently at one of the lowest points in
memory. We need to get this puppy stabilized and tested across many
platforms/compilers since libtool is supposed to be cross-platform
portability software. Relatively simple issues like print/echo/grep
have been getting in the way of this testing.

Well said. I'm going to create a branch-2-0 for this release, and use
the tarball to test on the platforms I have access to. I'll also downgrade
to Autoconf-2.59 and Automake-1.9.2.

1.9.2?? Sheesh, and I just got around to releasing a 1.9.1 version for cygwin...

As for myself, I have been negligent with testing/fixing libtool under
MinGW. Last I looked, it has become completely broken under MinGW and
can no longer even build libltdl. I will try to find time.

Wow, that's bad! I gather that cygwin is in pretty good shape at the moment
too (when I revert Chucks last changeset ;-)

Well, almost all of my recent changes are part of a
  "*cygwin* | *mingw*)"
case statement, so it's possible things are no longer quite as dire as all that on mingw.

BTW, that last patch (4-csw-cygwin-undo3-fix-postinstall_cmds.patch) is not COMPLETELY a mere reversion of 3-csw-cygwin-better-quoting-for-postinstall_cmds.changelog. It is that, but also changes $rm to $RM.
