I don't honestly see why this is better, are there any platforms which
neither use CC or LD to do the linking? Doesn't doing it like this way screw
up if any of these flags are position dependent? Even if this method is
better, can't we assume that if "`eval $echo $archive_cmds`" begins with $CC
that $archive_cmds begins with \$CC? Also what if archive_cmds contains $CC
as the second command after a ~?

Why did you decide to redo this?
