Hmm.  Yes, I like the idea, but I will want to put this in only after
the next Autoconf release has propagated, because of this bug:
http://lists.gnu.org/archive/html/autoconf/2005-11/msg00017.html
which leaves you with a broken libtool should you not restart configure
yourself.

I have applied the patch.
