Well, I'm certainly not planning on any more libltdl api changes before the next release from HEAD.  But then again, that has been the case for some months now, and occasionally a bug crops up (like the problem with having changed from RTLD_GLOBAL to RTLD_LOCAL by default) that forces us to do something icky.  So, even with the best laid plans, testing might turn up something that can only be fixed at the api level :-(

Unfortunately, the last remaining show-stopper issues for the HEAD release *do* require more work in the ltdl.m4 interfaces, so there will certainly be changes here too.

Painful though it is for early adopters of HEAD while everything stabilizes, the new interfaces for libtool HEAD are already very different, and I'd like to make that cut-over just once, rather than rush out what is currently in HEAD and find that we need to change things a bit more further down the line.

We saw the difficulties people had with the upgrade from autoconf-2.13 to 2.59, and have provided (or will provide) a much clearer migration path for our users.  Although gcc may not have chosen the best snapshot to integrate, any and all feedback that will help us to help them with the migration is very welcome indeed.

From where you (gcc) are with the adoption of libtool HEAD right now, I'd recommend sticking with the 2007-03-18 snapshot for now to break the back of any changes required in either libtool or the gcc build itself during the upgrade.  When we announce a feature freeze and release an alpha for wide scale testing, jumping to that might help us catch any remaining issues that need fixing, so that gcc can adopt the final HEAD release with the minimum of fuss when is does eventually arrive.

Cheers,
Gary
